Dining & Nightlife

San Diego has finally taken its place among the dining capitals of the country. Award-winning restaurants along with some of the region's top culinary talents have been featured in recent years in Food and Wine, Gourmet, Food Arts and The New York Times. Cuisine from around the globe abounds with Indian curries, Brazilian barbeques, Japanese finger rolls, and fettuccini pomodoro all competing for the heart (and stomach) of San Diego. Many menus also feature local bounty, hand selected daily at the numerous specialty and organic farms and farmers markets located throughout the county.

Go anywhere in the region and you'll find great dining. The Gaslamp Quarter in downtown San Diego is the unofficial Restaurant Central of the metropolis. Over 90 establishments line the streets, especially along Fifth Avenue. La Jolla, Del Mar and Coronado serve up exquisite ocean views with dinner.

San Diego's Restaurant Week, held in January, is an exposition of exquisite dining as restaurants form all over San Diego offer prix-fixe menus. No coupons or tickets are necessary, but guests are strongly urged to make reservations.

San Diego boasts not only world-class dining establishments, it offers culinary delights in bounty of farmers markets, cooking classes and shops full of gastronomical delights.
